Presentation
The CIBEST team "Chemistry Interface Biology for Environment Health and Toxicology" was created in January 2017. Chemists and Biologists combine their complementary expertise to address issues relative to toxicology and health and to elucidate or overcome the toxicity of chemical and physical agents as well as nanomaterials, using cell lines, primary cells or advanced cell models. We especially focus on DNA as a cellular target of these toxic agents, and conversely on therapeutic strategies targeting DNA to destroy diseased cells. The understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for toxic effects provides key information to improve disease prevention and human health. Therefore, we also propose new therapeutic and diagnostic tools by developing new molecules, Biomolecules or nanomaterials as Biomarkers, drugs or imaging agents. In this context, we are particularly interested in diseases related to metal overload.
Research at CIBEST is strongly anchored at the chemistry-Biology interface and combines synthesis of molecules for metal chelation exploiting Bio-inspiration and cell targeting, Biochemistry, molecular and cell Biology, all supported by the use of advanced analytical, physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods, such as mass spectrometry for the detection of DNA lesions or Biomarkers or analytical and imaging techniques at the synchrotron.

The team's Research is therefore structured around three main themes:
    Studying the toxicity of a large variety of physical and chemical agents
    Deciphering toxicity mechanisms
    Improving Human health

These research topics rely on use of a series of techniques and experimental skills gathered by the complementary expertise of the member of the team.
