Underwater interventions webinar, Prof. Pedro J. Sanz, UTLN – March 2022

A policy of excellence

The MIR consortium is committed to inviting internationally distinguished scholars to teach, give seminars and explore opportunities for collaborative research.

Each year the MIR Joint Management Comittee will award a minimum of 5 grants for visiting scholars and/or guest lecturers for a total minimum of eight weeks in each edition of the programme. The award will cover travel expenses as well as compensation for teaching hours.

We encourage applicants from both academic and industry blue growth sectors, aiming to provide our students with state of the art knowledge and competences.

Visiting Scholar applications can be made throughout the year by contacting directly the coordination office at mir-scholars@univ-tln.fr. The MIR coordination office will then provide you with access to the application platform and further instructions.

Each application is evaluated by the Joint Management comittee based on the following criteria and weights:

  • demonstrate outstanding academic and/or professional experience relevant to the achievement of MIR learning objectives
  • quality of application submitted
  • capacity to contribute towards internationalisation strategy objectives
  • evidence of applicants wishing to work on a joint research funding application/project or joint publication in collaboration with academic(s) at the proposed EM MIR host university

Visiting scholar or lecturer/speaker policy:

Visiting scholar reimbursement

Visiting scholar reimbursement amount is calculated according to the following formulas:

  1. 1300 euros flat rate including travel and subsistence costs for at least 10 hours of teaching
  2. 1700 euros flat rate including travel and subsistence costs for at least 15 hours of teaching
  3. 800 euros flat rate for travel and subsistence costs when the teaching programme is not specified but rather a guest lecture/presentation(s) and research and supervision support of students is carried out.

A minimum stay of 4 days including travel will have to be carried out regardless of which formula (1, 2 or 3) the visiting scholar applies too.

Visiting lecturers or speakers

Visiting lecturers or speakers are defined as distinguished academics or professionals with expertise relevant to the MIR programme which are invited to provide lecturers on a specific topic or a presentation at the MIR Annual symposium or other event organised by the MIR consortium without being bound by the minimum 4 days duration rules of visiting scholar bursaries.

For visiting lecturers or speakers from within the same country, reimbursement of expenses according to standard procedures in each partner institution will be applied and not the flat rate EMJMD scholarship. These lecturers/speakers are not considered as visiting scholars in the EMJMD sense and thus the minimum duration of stay of 4 days is not applicable.
