"Appearence"[edit]

Hello, just wanted to let you know that the word is spelled "appearance". Thanks! TheDarkStar (talk) 12:59, March 20, 2019 (EDT)

Editing[edit]

Thing about wikis is your edits can be improved or outright removed at any time, it even says that at the bottom of the editing window: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here." Experienced editors are trying to help you, so telling them not to goes against the community of a wiki. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:23, March 20, 2019 (EDT)

Okay, this is uncalled for. We are trying to help, no one's picking on you or trying to make you feel bad. We're trying to fix certain things and any mistakes. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:32, March 20, 2019 (EDT)

Screenshots[edit]

Please do not put screenshots of ROMhacks in mainspace articles. Big Goombas and Hefty Goombas do not appear in the respective places, and I don't recall Goombas in a lit-up desert cave either. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:46, December 15, 2019 (EST)

Yes, that's fine. We don't do that because we want to stay as official as possible. Also, don't remove talk page messages, please. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:12, December 15, 2019 (EST)

Re:FileTalk:Two hefty goombas in a snowy themed level[edit]

I'm not deleting the image, I'm only requesting deletion of its associated talk page, which I also created. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 16:25, December 15, 2019 (EST)

Uploads[edit]

Hello, Rodmjorgeh. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the {{aboutfile}} template, replacing the {{uncategorized}} template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

[[Category:Super Mario World images]]
or
[[Category:Super Mario World media files]]

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, Rodmjorgeh. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the {{aboutfile}} template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded syntax is shown below.

{{aboutfile
|1=Subject of the image
|2=Where you found the image
|3=Artist
|4=Describe edits, if any
|5=Other versions (use file link)
}}

Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line for the parameter(s) you don't use. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using {{aboutfile}} incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Dear Rodmjorgeh,

It has come to our attention that you are currently in violation of the userspace policy (prohibited subpage). Please review the policy and abide by it, or else a warning will be issued. Thank you for your cooperation.

As this doesn't serve the MarioWiki, please keep this sort of content on your main userpage. Marie costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:20, April 17, 2023 (EDT)

...That's unfortunate I guess. I blanked the page, you can delete it if you want. Rodmjorgeh (talk) 18:14, April 18, 2023 (EDT) Rodmjorgeh

Re:Standee images[edit]

Hello. Thank you for the uploads on the Standee page, but unfortunately we have to temporarily delete the images on the page just to avoid potential legal issues with leaked image assets from unreleased media. Don't fret, however, because your uploads will be restored on release day. Sit tight and hope you enjoy Super Mario Bros. Wonder! Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. That's completely understandable. As long as my two hours don't go to complete waste, it's fair game by me Rodmjorgeh (talk) 04:34, October 17, 2023 (EDT) Rodmjorgeh
Oh btw those edits I made were just oversights I made while converting the page to a gallery. Thanks for correcting them. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:00, October 20, 2023 (EDT)

It's just finding hidden blocks and praying to God you'll find the correct one. actually, all Search Party levels are like that. I get the jist of it, it's to go with a friend and find it together but it just doesn't work at all. the biggest miss in Super Mario Bros. Wonder for me Rodmjorgeh (talk) 12:41, October 22, 2023 (EDT) Rodmjorgeh
Old comment but now that I have opportunity to play the game and I remember this comment, yeah, these levels kind of stink. The worst part of them is the looping music that you can't turn off. It was starting to drive me crazy. I understand the appeal of the puzzle and scavenger hunt, and it's very satisfying to solve a puzzle such as the Pipe level, but overall these end up being pretty tedious and a lot of trial and error. Category order[edit]

Per MarioWiki:Categories#Order on pages, game-specific categories like "Super Mario Bros. Wonder objects" should be listed alphabetically on articles, which all follow type categories which are listed by significance. Marie costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:57, October 22, 2023 (EDT)

File:Torpedo Ted - NSMBU (render).png[edit]

How did you make this image, specifically the bubbles and propeller effect? Were those created yourself? (Same with File:Missile Meg (render) - SMBW.png and the smoke, which isn't how it looks in the game.) Marie costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 04:07, November 6, 2023 (EST)

Smoke, water bubbles and propeller effect were custom-made, although now I fixed some stuff to make it more line with the game. I hope this is allowed because for one, I don't know where water bubbles and the smoke are stored in the files, and even then I doubt they would look good rendered in Blender lighting. Secondly, I asked in the mariowiki Discord server and they were fine with it, and third it's not like Nintendo does this with their renders as well, most of the renders with effects (like water bubbles and such) are made specifically for the render Rodmjorgeh (talk) 09:07, November 6, 2023 (EST) Rodmjorgeh
"most of the renders with effects (like water bubbles and such) are made specifically for the render" That's different because those are official images, and they're artwork, not renders. Adding your own effects to the existing model makes them even more of a fan-made work, especially when they're not how they looked in the game; not saying they have to be the exact same effects extracted from the game somehow and applied to the models, but they're also completely fine without them. Can you link where you asked the question?
Also, do you know Glorie (talk)? Marie costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 21:36, November 6, 2023 (EST)
There's not an exact link but I showed every single render there with the particles shown and no one really said a thing about it up until now. I also asked if I could put in the level infobox as someone removed it because "nothing custom added to it, it's just from source" - which btw, is funny because whoever said this definitely thought the bubbles weren't custom (this guy also thought that as well, which is why I don't see the problem to keep it in but whatever) - and they said it was fine too because just the model image is also from the source, and I just wanted to take it out because the normals in that image are straight up awful and it's really poor to put in the infobox of a main page like that. I'd much, MUCH rather see just a screenshot of the actual enemy (just like Targeting Ted)
And no, in my opinion I don't think the renders are "completely fine" without the effects, these add character, removing them just makes the renders "okay"... but, I'll remove the effects later on today and add it back to the page Rodmjorgeh (talk) 03:19, November 7, 2023 (EST) Rodmjorgeh
The goal isn't to make it fancy, it's to just show what the subject looks like. It's not required to have effects and flourishes added to it (like Torpedo Ted's right now - this looks great either way). I also need a response to my last question regarding the other account; you're not in trouble, I just need to know in case it might be you or a sibling or someone else using the same device. Marie costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 08:00, November 8, 2023 (EST)
Yeah, got it. Sorry for getitng a little defensive btw, I just really didn't like having spent my time of perfecting the effects just to get wasted, but it's fine as I can use them to other projects I have I guess. Nothing again you, you're just doing your job, although I wish these rules were explained in one way or another.
Regarding Glorie (talk) (sorry for not answering earlier btw), yeah I do know him, he's my cousin. The account is not gonna be used again and it's probably gonna have only that contribution for something I could explain if you guys need. It was kind of stupid and I could've just used my account so I apologize about that Rodmjorgeh (talk) 08:17, November 8, 2023 (EST) Rodmjorgeh

Regarding effects, it should be fine if you use relevant textures from the game itself. As long as they are used in the proper context. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 09:22, November 8, 2023 (EST)

Got that, but still, not only are they very hard to rip but it'd be very hard to make it look good in Blender and would require some shading node shenanigans to make it fitting and it's better off doing from scratch than going through this pain.
A great example is the water bubbles from the Torpedo Ted render, it was easier doing from scratch because they're just spheres with a glass material applied and some transparency on the middle. From the game it'd probably be some weird ass texture that would require you to understand what color channels do what and it'd probably have more textures on top of that... it's way harder Official artwork of MarioRodmjorgeh (Psst, let's talk?) 09:41, November 8, 2023 (EST)
Central transparency isn't too hard in postprocessing in my experience, I did it when rendering the Yoshi's Story bubbles from a stock color palette. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:51, November 8, 2023 (EST)
