Faculty of Education and Psychology
The faculty is a strong educator in its fields of study. The Department of Psychology trains about a third of all psychologists graduating in Finland. In education, especially teacher training, the faculty is one of the largest trainers in the country, and in special education it is the largest in terms of the number of graduates.
The Centre of Excellence for Learning Dynamics and Intervention Research (InterLearn) investigates the links between children's learning and mental health, and the factors that explain the effectiveness of learning support interventions.
Centre for Interdisciplinary Brain Research (CIBR) provides comprehensive neuroscience infrastructure, training and studies for neuroscientists across faculty boundaries, including basic and doctoral studies.
The Methodology Centre for Human Sciences offers to the University of Jyväskylä's doctoral students and researchers training and events on research methodology across faculty boundaries.
The Psychotherapy Training and Research Centre provides therapy services and trains undergraduate and postgraduate students, organizes continuing education programmes, and produces research on psychotherapy and psychological treatment processes.
The purpose of Teacher Training School is to provide basic education, upper secondary education, and supervised teacher training as part of teacher training.
The Faculty of Education and Psychology's studies combine a sense of community, practicality, and theory. We teach you to think fresh and experiment boldly. Our faculty offers two high-quality master's degree programmes taught in English, Educational Sciences and Development, Education and Intercultural Cooperation (DEICO), run jointly with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The doctoral programmes in the Faculty of Education and Psychology are Doctoral programme in education (KASTO), Doctoral programme in psychology (PSYTO), and Doctoral programme in cognitive neuroscience (KOGNETO).
Students belong to one doctoral programme, but they may choose to participate in activities organised by multidisciplinary, nationally or internationally networked doctoral training networks and research communities.
In addition to the Faculty of Education and Psychology, which awards the degrees, the Educational Research Institute and the Chydenius University Centre in Kokkola are also involved in the doctoral training.
The research strengths identified by the faculty in its strategic work are: learning, interaction and well-being. In line with these, the Faculty's mission is Learning and well-being as a builder of a sustainable future society.
