Course Syllabus

Abstract

This seminar will guide students in their study trajectories and basic research activities. It will combine general seminars and individual consultations to inform students about elective courses, project work, and the preparation of their term papers/master's theses. We also touch upon the main developments in the field of public policy studies to discuss the prospective topics and issues that could be studied by the students

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Individual study trajectory and 1st year research plan presentation
    A student must prepare a presentation that should describe his/her study preferences and his/her research plans for the first year of study. The presentation must have 8–10 slides where the choice of electives is explained together with particular aspects of a student's research
  • non-blocking Research proposal 1st draft
    An explicit statement of the research problem, which briefly summarizes the discussion on the issue in the literature and presents the relevance of the problem, a clearly stated research question, and research goal with the tasks to fulfil
  • non-blocking Group work
    There will be a group work presented in class that will be evaluated in accordance with a student's engagement and the quality of the results presented
  • non-blocking 1st year final paper
    A student must summarize his/her thoughts on the development of the study plan and the progress of his/her term paper research.

  • non-blocking 2nd year feedback and self-assessment paper

    0.3 * 1st year final paper + 0.2 * Individual study trajectory and 1st year research plan presentation + 0.4 * Research proposal 1st draft + 0.1 * Group work

    0.4 * Research plan 2nd year + 0.6 * 2nd year feedback and self-assessment paper
