An eSIM is a digital version of a physical SIM card. The main difference between eSIM and a physical SIM card is that an eSIM is embedded in the phone and cannot be removed as opposed to SIM cards which can be ejected from one phone and placed in another. An eSIM performs the same function as a physical SIM card.
If you are an existing Emtel Prepaid or Postpaid customer, you can do it online on https://www.emtel.com/esim-swap to convert your physical SIM card to an eSIM and if you are not an Emtel customer, visit any Emtel showroom to activate your eSIM.

- Proof of address not more than 3 months

If you already have a physical SIM, you will not be charged for swapping to a eSIM, however if you are not an Emtel customer, you will be charged Rs 100 when you opt for a prepaid eSIM.

- All general prepaid and postpaid mobile terms and conditions of Emtel Ltd will apply to the provisions of eSIM.
- An activation eSIM QR will be allocated to you. The activation of QR code is used for the activation of your eSIM and must be kept confidential.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not share the activation QR with others, in any manner or form, especially before activating it on your device. Emtel Ltd is neither responsible nor liable for any such warranted or unwarranted disclosure on your part.
- Internet is connection is required in order to activate the eSIM on your eSIM enabled device.
- The activation QR code can only be used on a single device. The activation QR code can be
re-used on another eSIM enabled device, provided the eSIM profile is deleted on the existing device.
- If you delete your eSIM profile your mobile network will be disconnected and to restore your mobile network, you will have to set up the eSIM again using the initial QR code provided by Emtel.
- To switch to a new device, you will have to delete your eSIM profile on your existing device while being connected to the internet and then activate it on your new device. In case, you do not have the activation QR code, please contact Emtel.
- If you lose your eSIM enabled device or the eSIM enabled device is stolen and the eSIM
profile is loaded on it, you will need to contact Emtel to suspend your number.

Type of customers: Existing Emtel customers in Mauritius only
Scenario: You have an ESIM and you want to use the same number on a new non capable ESIM device
How to proceed:
1) Visit an Emtel showroom
2) Showroom agent proceeds with sim replacement.
3) Ensure you are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi
4) Open your phone settings and delete the eSIM profile.
Type of customers: Existing Emtel customers in Mauritius and abroad
Scenario: An eSIM is currently installed on your phone, and you want to purchase another eSIM capable device. You wish to use the same phone number on the new device.
How to proceed:
1) Make sure that the QR code sent by Emtel via email is available.
2) Ensure you are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi
3) Go to your phone settings and remove the eSIM profile.
4) Scan the QR code on the new eSIM capable phone.
Type of customers: Existing Emtel customers in Mauritius and abroad
Scenario: If an eSIM is installed on a phone that is lost or stolen, you can set up the eSIM on a new device supporting eSIM technology
How to proceed:
1) Reach out to an Emtel showroom for deletion and release of the eSIM QR code associated with the lost phone.
2) Upon purchase of a new eSIM-capable device, the same QR code will be used.
Scenario: Your phone with an eSIM embedded was lost or stolen. You have now a new device not supporting eSIM.
How to proceed:
1) Reach out to an Emtel showroom for deletion and release of the eSIM QR code associated with the lost phone.
2) A new SIM replacement on a physical SIM Card will be handed over to you.
Type of customers: Existing Emtel customers abroad
Scenario: You are abroad and you lost your phone which contains your eSIM. You have now a new device which is not Esim compatible.
How to proceed:
1) Reach out to Emtel via 8970 or social media for deletion and release of the eSIM QR code associated with the lost phone.
2) Once back to Mauritius visit an Emtel Showroom
3) Emtel agents will facilitate a SIM replacement and provide a physical SIM card to be inserted to your non eSIM compatible device.
Type of customers: Existing Emtel customers in Mauritius
Scenario: You have an eSIM installed on a phone which cannot be repaired. You received a temporary replacement phone not supporting eSIM.
How to proceed:
1) Visit an Emtel showroom and request a SIM replacement for a physical SIM card.
2) Insert the SIM card into your non-eSIM device.
3) Once you have a new device supportsing eSIM technology, visit an Emtel showroom for an eSIM
4) Emtel agents proceeds with eSIM replacement and provides QR code.
5) Scan the QR code on the new eSIM-capable phone to activate the eSIM.
