Endorsed Programs

For students in Years 10, 11 and 12, there is the opportunity for students to participate in, and have recognised, particular programs that help towards meeting graduation requirements. These are not compulsory, and students can graduate without using any endorsed programs.

An endorsed program is a significant learning program that has been developed for Senior Secondary students. Endorsed programs can be delivered as part of the school curriculum or as extra-curricular activities.

All endorsed programs successfully completed and reported to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) by the school:

  • are listed on the students Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA)
  • may contribute towards the depth requirement of the WACE
  • may contribute towards the C grade requirement of the WACE

Each endorsed program is allocated one, two, three or four unit equivalents. A student is able to count a maximum of four unit equivalents from endorsed programs for WACE purposes, two in Year 11 and two in Year 12.

Programs are endorsed in three categories:

  • Authority developed endorsed programs
  • Provider developed endorsed programs
  • School developed endorsed programs

The full list of all programs can be found here.

Some endorsed programs are not allocated a full unit equivalent but will still appear on the WASSA. The pre-driver education course Keys for Life is an example.

The most commonly used endorsed programs at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School include:

  • Year 10 Outward Bound Camp
  • Royal Life Saving Society WA Inc – Bronze Medallion
  • Employment Advantage
  • The Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards
  • Workplace Learning (WPL)
  • Country Week
  • School Production
  • Music Ensemble
  • PADI: Open Water Dive
  • Department of Transport – Skippers ticket
  • The Law Society of WA – Mock Trials
  • Youth Explorer Voyage – Leeuwin Ocean Adventure
  • The Law Society – Mock Trials

Excluding the Outward Bound camp, all endorsed programs require some type of documentation (Evidence of Learning) at the completion of the program and this must be provided to the School. For example, just attending Country Week does not qualify a student to have the endorsed program recognised on the WASSA. Students will need to fill in a Country Week booklet with details about training, practice games, goal setting and other events leading up to and including the carnival week. Students can ask their coach or Mr Reid for a booklet. The booklet also needs to be signed by the coach. It is the student’s responsibility to provide the school with their completed Certificate as evidence for the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA).
