James Tagg is a serial entrepreneur, physicist, and award-winning author. He was one of the original inventors of the touchscreen now found on all mobile phones. He founded Truphone, the world’s first global mobile network, making the first VoIP call on a mobile phone and developing the eSIM. During COVID-19, he built a quantum computer in his garage, which explores ‘the measurement problem’ allowing faster quantum computers to be built. He is currently the Chief Architect for World Mobile a Web3 mobile carrier launching in the USA. His first book, Are the Androids Dreaming Yet? Explores the limits of Artificial Intelligence and the differences between humans and computers.
Kamailio as a SIP Application Server
Kamailio is well known for its scalability and flexibility for SIP routing, but is that all? What else it can do? This presentation shows some of the SIP application server features that can be run with Kamailio, such as instant messaging conferencing, MSRP, XCAP and presence services, gatewaying to social media, basic media server, DIAMETER router or SMS center.
Daniel co-founded Kamailio in June 2005, aiming to build a solid SIP server project where openness to community and contributions has an important role, previously being core developer of SIP Express Router (SER) from its early beginning in 2002. He has a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Polytechnics University of Bucharest and worked as a researcher in network communications at Fraunhofer Fokus Institute, Berlin, Germany. His activity is done at Asipto, a company targeting to offer and build reliable services and solutions that benefit at maximum from Kamailio’s flexibility and features.
Dynamic SIP Credentials
Learn how to use Kamailio to generate dynamic SIP credentials that expire after a certain amount of time. Engineers sometimes forget to remove SIP credentials of test carriers from a customers system after performing testing, and wouldn’t catch it until a fraud notification from the carrier or receive the monthly bill. Therefore, we created a RESTFUL endpoint called “/lease” and it creates a set of SIP credentials that are only active for a defined timeframe. Once, the timeframe is reached the credentials are automatically removed from Kamailio. Using SIP dynamic credentials versus using long-lived credentials is more secure when building new environments and performing automated testing using CI/CD. Credentials are automatically removed once testing is complete.

Build 5G Stand Alone Private Network with Open Source
Mobile network technologies, for a long time, were known to be anything but affordable, especially for small companies and individuals. However, over the past few years, supported by software defined networks, the costs for radio access hardware went down. Allocation of testing spectrum licenses has been made more flexible and open source started also to play a relevant role, considerably lowering the entry barrier for research and development in the mobile networks space. This session presents how one can build an affordable 5G SA private network using open source only software, which then can be used for testing, prototyping and beyond.
Elena-Ramona Modroiu is a researcher at AV Chair of Technischen Universität (Technical University) Berlin, Germany, leading the research group for open source mobile technologies, focusing on leveraging open source to facilitate student’s access to complex RTC systems and to define next generation communication services. She has a master degree in Computer Science Engineering from Polytechnics University of Bucharest, Romania. She has been directly involved in a couple open source projects for more then two decades, among them: Kamailio SIP Server and Siremis.
From Texting to TikTok: Defining Digital Regulation
We’ve all heard the recent TikTok drama, the push to ban its use in the US. We’re not going to comment either way, but it does bring up the very controversial topic of digital regulation. TikTok is being questioned due to software and database ownership, should it raise concerns about national security?
Business texting is experiencing the drama of regulations, as well. The US mobile carriers decided to set up their own regulation authority, and it worked, they got a good portion of business to sign up with their registry or else they wouldn’t deliver 10DLC, or A2P business text messages. We all handed over our data, and content of our messages that would be sent from each specific phone number. It passed through a company-run registry that the US carriers deemed their official reputation authority, and if approved, it is then vetted again by the carriers, all before messages can be sent. Is this ok?

Building 4G and 5G IMS Flows Using OpenSIPS 3.5
This year’s OpenSIPS 3.5 release continues the work on the open-source IMS support, with added features such as AKAv1 authentication, IPSec tunnel management, Diameter server support and HTTP/2 server support to name a few.
