Statistics

The Czech National Bank in its area of competence compiles and publishes statistics, in particular monetary and financial statistics, balance of payments statisticssupervisory statistics, financial accounts statistics, general economic statistics and government finance statistics. The individual statistics are compiled in accordance with international standards and standards of the European Union and the relevant requirements of the European supervisory authorities and the CNB’s single financial market supervisory unit. The section “Statistics” contains not only the data and their methodology, but also commented publications (e.g. Monetary Statistics, Commentary on balance of payments and Commentary on quarterly financial accounts) and the relevant regulations at both national and European and international level. The EU Treaty requires the European Central Bank, assisted by the national central banks, to collect the statistical information necessary in order to undertake the tasks of the European System of Central Banks. The Treaty requires the countries to make essential statistical preparations upon their joining the EU to be able to contribute to the euro area statistics when they adopt the single currency (official ECB's video, ESCB’s data presentation - external links).

In addition to statistics compiled in its area of competence the CNB publishes also other information relating to its activities, notably the data on inflation. The subsection “Inflation” provides information on inflation measured and released by the CZSO, the inflation target and the inflation forecast published by the CNB and inflation expectations surveyed by the CNB. The CNB has at its disposal a number of systems for data collection (SDAT), processing and dissemination; the most important with respect to publication is ARAD, a unique system of time series of statistical data compiled by the CNB and supplemented with selected data from external sources. The SDDS Plus site contains economic and financial data of the Czech Republic under the International Monetary Fund methodology.

Policy regarding the reuse of ESCB statistics

The European System of Central Banks (ESCB) releases its statistics and related methodologies via the websites of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the national central banks (NCBs), and the ESCB makes continuous efforts to facilitate their use. Against this background, the ESCB would like to set out its common policy regarding the reuse of ESCB statistics.

The ESCB is committed to providing its statistics free of charge as a public good of high quality irrespective of any subsequent commercial or non-commercial use.

The ESCB subscribes to a policy of free access and free reuse regarding its publicly released statistics, subject to the conditions described below.

The ESCB attaches great importance to the quality of its statistics, in accordance with the principles set out in the Public commitment on European Statistics by the ESCB.

Common conditions for the reuse of ESCB statistics

All publicly available ESCB statistics may be reused free of charge on the condition that the source is quoted (e.g. “Source: ECB statistics.”) and that the statistics (including metadata) are not modified. The policy of free access and free reuse does not imply a right to obtain confidential data.

The following additional rules apply.

  1. The right of free reuse refers to statistics as made available to the public in standard format, which must be used in accordance with the respective disclaimers issued by the ECB and the NCBs.
  2. The right of free reuse does not apply to third-party data without a prior permission from the originator.
  3. Users are not entitled to expect continuity of all ESCB statistics published and should note that statistics may be changed as a result of revisions or other updates.
  4. Access to ESCB statistics may be restricted in exceptional circumstances, for example if a user is acting in a manner contrary to the interests of other users.
