The Red-tailed Barbel (Barbus haasi), known as barb cua-roig in Catalan, and barbo colirrojo or barbo de cola roja in Spanish, is a species of ray-finned fish in the Cyprinidae family. Sometimes it is called "Redtail Barb", but this properly refers to the African Barbus gurneyi.
It is a small size barbel found only in the northeast of the Iberian peninsula.[1] Morphologically it is similar to Barbus bocagei, but it is smaller and rarely reaches sizes longer than 20 cm.
Its natural habitats are rivers and inland karsts in inner Catalonia, especially in the Bages comarca area.
The red-tailed barbel is threatened by habitat loss and the introduction of non-endemic species like the pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus).
