St Lucia Social Sport

Want to play sport without having to buy all the gear and make a year-long commitment? Let off study steam and hustle the squad for some friendly Social Sport competition!

Social Sport is a great way to learn a new skill, play the sport you love, meet new people and stay fit. For each competition you join you will play a scheduled match once a week for the duration of the competitions season.

Competitions are open to everyone, whether you’re a University of Queensland student (special rates apply), a past student, staff member or a member of the public. You can also choose to enter as a full team or as an individual and we’ll put you in a team.

UQ Sport currently offers the following sports for summer social sport:

Wet Weather

Should there be inclement weather before games; the Competitions Manager will decide whether or not the fixtures will go ahead. Once a decision has been made to suspend the games, all team captains will be notified and a post will be put on the UQ Sport Social Sport Facebook page.

Rules

All our social sport competitions have their own set of competition rules that can be found on the individual social sport pages. They are there to make sure everyone understands that these are social, not serious ‘win at all costs’, competitions. However if you know of anyone not sticking to the rules or if there are any cases of inappropriate behaviour during competitions, please let us know by emailing us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum number of players allowed on a team?

There’s no limit to how many players you can have in one team. However, we recommend you have no more than 10 players in your team as only 10 medals are allocated to winners of Grand Finals.

How old do I have to be to play?

You must be at least 16 years old to play. Team captains must be 18 years or older.

I’ve just enrolled as an individual. What do I have to do now?

You don’t have to do anything! When you enrol as an individual, we’ll sort you into a team once enrolments close and send you an email that provides you with details of your team.

My friend and I just enrolled as individuals. Can we play in the same team?

Sure can! Just get in touch and let us know your names and we’ll make a note in our system to make sure you’re in the same team once enrolments close.

Will games be played on Public Holidays and during Semester breaks?

No, we don’t schedule games on Public Holidays, or during Semester breaks.

Are there grading weeks at the start of the season?

If you are in a league with 11 or more teams, the first three (3) weeks of your season will be grading weeks. After this period, we’ll put teams into divisions and then the next four (4) weeks will consist of regular season games. The final three (3) weeks of the competition will be Finals.

If you are in a league with 10 teams or less, there is no grading period. Weeks 1-7 will consist of regular season games and weeks 8-10 will be Finals.

Is my team able to change the division we’re in?

Unfortunately, we’re not able to change the division a team is in once grading is completed.

When will the fixtures be released?

Our Social Sport team accommodate over 300 teams across a number of different sports. Our aim, as always, is to release the first three rounds of fixtures one week before your competition begins. Sometimes this is not possible, so if you do not receive them one week before the competition begins, please don’t panic! You will be notified in due time.

My question hasn’t been answered. Where can I get further information?
