The scientific questions addressed at the institute range from the molecular basics up to ecosystem function. The long-term goal is to examine the causal chain from the genome, gene expression, the analysis of functions of individual organs and senses, to phenotype, perception and adaptation to the environment and the effects on the ecosystem.
