How far is "far"? Because I need to pee.
"The battle is far from over!"
Publisher Hasbro
Cover date 1985

"The battle is far from over!" is one of a series of mail-order flyers included with Generation 1 toys, offering various Transformers unavailable at retail. The content is almost word-for-word identical to its predecessor, minus an explanation of Robot Points and plus a S.T.A.R.S. membership drive. Also, the photographs of toys have been replaced by box-art-style paintings.

Synopsis

A portion of this flyer is written in the second person, recruiting the reader into S.T.A.R.S. While the story proper is presented in traditional omniscient-narrator third-person, the style of the other S.T.A.R.S.-related material suggests that this entire flyer is propaganda which exists within its own fiction.

No, comrade, Prime has always mentioned S.T.A.R.S.

Early in the Transformers' war on Earth, the Autobots find the tide of battle turning against them. In desperation, they send a message to Cybertron for help, not knowing if anyone is even left on Cybertron to hear it. Thankfully, their cry is heard, and they soon receive a "shipment" containing the Powerdashers, Omnibots, and Time Warriors. Optimus Prime tells a nearby junior officer that they must now recruit "Earth allies" into the S.T.A.R.S. organization.

But I just want to dance with them!

The Powerdashers root the Decepticons out from their hiding places, but these new Autobots are "constantly evolving", their appearances altering unpredictably. The Omnibots are more stable, taking on inconspicuous automotive alt-modes and patrolling the highways. They can use their hidden missile systems to fight Decepticons even while still in vehicle mode. The Time Warriors, while referred to as "Autobots", seem more like tools than Transformers. They are simply timepieces used by the reader on covert missions in Decepticon territory. Where previously this may have seemed an odd point of view, now there is more context: Optimus Prime himself encourages the reader to join S.T.A.R.S. and receive the following:

  • A Transformers Command Center, from which the recipient can "command" their "own Earth sector"
  • A S.T.A.R.S. iron-on patch, the display of which will ensure "instant respect from Autobot allies"
  • A poster
  • A S.T.A.R.S. membership card with "a magical picture that changes from Autobot to Decepticon"
  • And an Autobot Tech-Spec Manual with information about Cybertron, the Autobot base, and several Transformers.

Notes

  • This is the very first mention of S.T.A.R.S., establishing more of a context for breaking the fourth wall and involving the reader as a part of the story. However, there are more new metatextual oddities; for instance, the Control Center, described as a device for commanding a sector of Earth, is in the same sentence said to be made out of "full-color graphic board." Also it can be used "for storing and displaying Transformers and fits on a dresser or bookshelf."
  • Items available in this brochure include:
    • Powerdasher
    • Time Warrior
    • Camshaft
    • Downshift
    • Overdrive
    • S.T.A.R.S. membership
