Synopsis

"I'm ready for my close-up now, Mr. Burns."

After playing an old newsreel describing the covering of a time capsule seventy five years ago, Frankie starts filming Cody beside the statue of Horace Burns for some present-day coverage. Unfortunately the Bots keep appearing in frame and as they're talking normally instead of pretending to be robots, Frankie has to call for retakes. Heatwave is mostly grumpy that the townsfolk still aren't ready to accept the idea of aliens. The kids decide to get some interviews instead, however Chief Burns is currently spelunking in the old diamond mine with Chase and Doc Greene and can't take part. Intending to propose to Anna Baranova, Doc is looking for a suitable diamond for a ring with his gemstone detector. As they explore, the ground suddenly gives way, plunging them into an old shaft. They manage to get safely to the bottom, thanks to Chase catching the two humans, and Doc digs up a diamond. Doc's detector picks up something else as well: a rock called reactaline, and he realizes veins of the mineral run under the island. They set about collecting a sample.

Meanwhile the townsfolk are laying siege to the fire house, as Chief is the one who will decide what will go in the new time capsule which will be buried to replace the old one. Chase and the Chief manage to get inside where Cody explains that the crowd have all brought things to go in, and even his siblings have ideas. So does Blades, though Heatwave tells him to put his scoop claw away as he doesn't feel like they're part of the community. Chief observes that the incoming storm will disperse the crowd and hopes Woodrow makes it to the island safely.

NowAndThen Blades vs Reactaline.jpg

In the lab, Doc and Frankie run tests on the reactaline sample and find it takes on whatever properties it's subjected to. When they magnetize it, the entire chunk up and flies through the nearest window, heading towards town. The rescue team rolls out, and first attempt to capture the chunk of rock with a grapple. When that fails, Blades has to physically throw himself onto it to prevent it hitting an airship, but it eventually crashes into the Hall of Inspiration and gloms onto a griffin statue. The team rush inside to inspect the damage, and the Greenes arrive as well.

As the storm worsens, it wakens Woodrow Burns, who's heading for the island on his ship. The boat's hit by several massive waves, causing it to sink, and though Woodrow is thrown overboard, his leg becomes tangled in a rope and he's dragged down too. The next thing he knows, he's on the deck of a large ship with only a garbage truck and racing car for company. Though Blurr, Salvage and High Tide try to keep up the pretext of being robots, Woodrow reveals he already knows about Cybertronians.

NowAndThen opened capsule.jpg

On Griffin Rock, the time capsule ceremony begins with Mayor Luskey as MC. The Rescue Bots move the statue and uncover the capsule, however when it's opened, inside is a large quantum crystal. A note reveals that Dr. Hendrickson exchanged the capsule's original contents for the crystal to avoid it falling into the wrong hands. The idea that the crystal might be dangerous sees the townsfolk clearing the area, with some heading for boats.

Out on the sea, High Tide's ship is in sight of the island, though the storm seems to be growing even worse.

As the rescue team attempts to secure the quantum crystal, it's struck by lightning. Heatwave drops it into the pit, where it contacts an exposed reactaline seam, and as those at sea watch, the entire island disappears in a blaze of green light. The water rushes in to fill the empty crate, leaving a wrecked dock and a number of stricken vessels. While High Tide goes to contact Optimus, Woodrow directs Blurr and Salvage to help the humans.

NowAndThen deicing generators.jpg

Griffin Rock rematerializes over the Arctic and comes to rest in the middle of a blizzard. After a quick discussion, the rescue team hits on the idea of raising the force field dome, which will require deicing the power generators and the team rolls out.

Back where the island used to be, the Rescue Bots there pluck all of the humans from the water, though the mayor's yacht goes down.

Meanwhile the Rescue Bots successfully deice the generators, and the dome is raised, protecting the island from the blizzard. Unfortunately the energy supply won't last as long as Doc Greene expected, and as he observes, they need a new plan.
