Lone Gunmen
From Transformers Wiki
- The Lone Gunmen are a trio of humans from the Generation 1 continuity family.
The Lone Gunmen—comprising John Byers, Melvin Frohike and Richard "Ringo" Langly—are three highly intelligent yet often inept "undercover agents", beholden only to themselves, investigating corruption and intrigue at the highest levels. Their allies include Fox Mulder and Dana Scully of the FBI and they are rumored to have even encountered extra-terrestrial life-forms.

Hearts of Steel
The Lone Gunmen received an email purporting to be from the future which warned of an imminent outbreak of a deadly virus so they set out to investigate the various urban legends that the documents mentioned. After encountering "mutated man-people" and "ghost hunters" they went out to meet one of Langly's contacts in a car park, who turned out to be the Autobots Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Discovering that they were both investigating Skylogic Systems—the Autobots because they were looking for their missing comrade Ratchet and the Gunmen because Skylogic had been identified as the source of the virus—they pooled their resources and were able to identify their chief suspect as David Simmons. Tracing Simmons to the "Sweet Lovin' Highway Motel", they interrogated him and discovered the location of Skylogic's lab.
Langly and Bumblebee fast became "ninja buddies" and the diminutive Autobot helped the Lone Gunmen infiltrate the facility after scanning a military altmode and using his holomatter technology. They quickly discovered Ratchet, springing him from Skylogic's E.M.P. containment field but not without setting off an alarm that summoned squads of Skylogic security armed with advanced weaponry capable of incapacitating Bumblebee. While Byers uncovered the address of Skylogic's virus manufacturing facility, Langly rescued his ninja buddy (according to the first rule of Fight Club) and the Autobots forced their way out of the building to rendezvous with Optimus Prime.
Afterwards the Lone Gunmen and their Transformer allies went their separate ways, though the Autobots left them with a sample of the virus to take to the C.D.C. in the hopes of developing a cure before heading north. The X-Files: Conspiracy
