"Nature made me a freak. Man made me a weapon. And God made it last too long."

Fiction

End of G1 Universe

In a desperate attempt to "save" the dying universe, the Maximal Bluebolt brought the lifeless body of Leo Prime to Earth, aware that remnants of Unicron's energy still persisted, in an attempt to resurrect the great hero. After drawing a magic circle, Bluebolt was interrupted by Untite, who sought to consume the lion's corpse and summoned an undead Seeker to restrain the Maximal. However, the ritual still went off without a hitch and the Angolmois Energy merged with the body to form a new being: Dark Amber Leo Prime. Bluebolt was convinced that this black warrior was Leo Prime reborn, but the arrogant newborn was dismissive of the idea, insisting on being referred to as "Dark Amber". The Energon Matrix that he inherited from Leo Prime acted as a painful sort of "conscience" and forced him into rescuing the hapless Bluebolt, which Dark Amber dismissed as gratitude for bringing about his existence. Untite, on the other hand, believed Dark Amber to be his maker, Unicron himself, an event which the black robot couldn't recall. Convinced that his opponent was "incomplete" and that he could kill and consume him for great power, Untite attacked and wounded the still-feeble Dark Amber.

To save the dark hero from perishing, Bluebolt gave an offer of self-sacrifice for Dark Amber Leo Prime to consume Bluebolt's body and heal from the energy within. But Dark Amber refused, instead opting to use his planet eater abilities to regain strength from eating... dirt. (It is part of a planet, after all.) Revitalized, Dark Amber easily took down the Seeker. Dark Amber Leo Prime (First) After getting more sustenance from the Sparkless's remnants, Dark Amber moved on to Untite, shredding him apart with his attacks. When it was revealed to Dark Amber by (the now bodiless) Untite and Bluebolt that Earth was about to explode with them still on it, the corrupted Maximal refused to accept the destruction of what became, over ten thousands of millennia, his "home" and used the Unicronian energies within him to restore the planet to a lush one filled with its former life. In the process, he also brought Untite back to tiptop shape. Together with Bluebolt and the grateful Untite, Dark Amber Leo Prime set out in Untite's ship to fix the rest of the universe. • Dark Amber Leoprime [sic] (January 28, 2023)
    • ID number: MP-48+
    • Accessories: 4 missiles, 2 beam launchers, weapon folder
Masterpiece Dark Amber Leo Prime is a redeco of Lio Convoy. He transforms from black lion to robot and is intended to replicate Lio Convoy's animated design, although his coloration is based on the original Black Lio Convoy toy. He is designed to scale with other Beast Wars-based Masterpiece figures.
This toy replicates many features of the original toy, like an opening chest hatch with sculpted Matrix inside, deployable arm blades and cannons, and missiles which can be inserted into his cannons, but have no launching mechanisms. He includes opening hatches on his calves which reveal articulated jet boosters. To really go the extra mile for show-accuracy, it has two slightly distinct lion heads, to better depict how in robot mode the lion head goes from furry to smooth and angular.
Dark Amber Leoprime is also the first Masterpiece figure with CG renders instead of actual photography on the box. This extends to the front of the box, which seems to intentionally echo the original Lio Convoy figure's box art render.

Notes

  • Dark Amber Leo Prime derives his color scheme from Black Lio Convoy's consistently show-inaccurate toy deco.
