He loves the smell of napalm in the morning. And afternoon. Evening... late night...

The Air Patrol has never really gelled as a team, and a good chunk of that is because of Blaze Master (aka Choppermaster). It's not just because his cynical nature clashes with the ever-optimistic Sky High. Frankly, he scares them, and a lot of other Autobots as well. His favorite battle tactic is to fly slow and low over Decepticon positions, presenting himself as an easy target. Once he's sure they can see him, he releases his signature weapon, a napalm-like corrosive spray that incinerates anything it doesn't melt first. Then he just hovers there, watching his enemies die slowly and painfully... chuckling all the while. He can use the spray in robot mode too, but the "death from above" method is by far his favorite.[1]

United EX

Blaze Master was one of several Autobots from Zone chosen for Power Core Combination. Taking the name Choppermaster (チョッパーマスター Choppāmasutā), he was training in the Swiss alps with a group of drones when Rollermaster attacked. Despite the Master Chaos Decepticon taking control of the drones, Choppermaster held his own fighting against the giant foe with his incendiary gel. In the Blazing Alps Choppermaster and Rollermaster beat each other to the point of shut down. A final victor was not decided, however, because another Decepticon named Combatmaster arrived on the scene to finish the battle. He carried Rollermaster to safety while collapsing a mountain on top of the fallen Autobot. Prelude to the Siege

Choppermaster was eventually recovered by his friend Airmaster, but Dozermaster had secretly placed a homing beacon on him while he was deactivated, allowing the Decepticon to track Choppermaster and Airmaster back to the Autobots' secret headquarters. The Price of a Life

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

When the newly created Micromasters first took up sides in the Cybertronian Wars, Blaze Master chose to join the Decepticons. Working alongside Barricade and his Race Track Patrol, he attacked the Autobot Micromasters when they attempted to rescue the damaged guzzler named Roadbuster. Destined for Nothing Rumor had it, though, that he was discontent with the Decepticon way of doing things. Powertrain and Highjump were discussing how to bring Blaze Master over to the Autobot side later that night in Little Iacon. Their conversation was interrupted when Blaze Master walked in on them. The Gray Race When Venom and his Decepticons took over and occupied the area, they demanded the Micros turn against each other on that formerly neutral turf. At that point, Blaze Master had definitely had enough: he tossed aside his allegiance and told the Decepticon guzzlers to slag off. Venom then had Barrage shoot down the Micromaster. The Autobot Fixit was seen caring for the fallen Blaze Master after that. Recipe for Hate Venom and his men took the Autobot Micromasters into custody back at Decepticon headquarters, but Big Daddy and the Hot Rod Patrol broke them out soon after. Blaze Master got his revenge on Venom shortly afterwards, stabbing the larger robot through the torso with his energo-rotors. Victims of the Revolution

Beast Wars: Uprising

Blaze Master and the Air Patrol were assigned to the Micromaster 58th Division across the Sonic Canyons during the Grand Uprising. Although they mined the bridges to prevent the Maximal Nation from crossing, the Maximals made a daring maneuver to cross by haphazard force fields projected across the gap. The Micromasters pulled back from the canyons after this daredevil tactic brought the enemy to them. Derailment

Toys

The Transformers

G1-toy BlazeMaster.jpg
  • Air Patrol (Micromaster Patrol, 1990)
  • Takara name: Sky Patrol Team
  • Takara ID number: C-352
  • Accessories: Rotor blade
Released in the seventh (and final) year of Hasbro's US Transformers toyline (sixth and not-final year in European markets), Blaze Master transforms into a Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low helicopter. His rotor blades can detach and be mounted as a melee weapon on his robot-mode arm. Blaze Master is gang molded with his teammate Tread Bolt, causing the two to share plastic colors.
He was only available as part of the Air Patrol set with his teammates Eagle Eye, Sky High, and Tread Bolt.
In Takara's markets, the Team was released as the "Sky Patrol Team", released in the Zone portion of Takara's Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers toyline. They are physically identical to their Hasbro counterparts.
The rotor blade is the same mold as the one used by Tracer.

Does this new look make me look chunky? Best go on a diet, by this time next year I'll be fit and fabulous again!
  • Rollermaster vs Choppermaster (Vs pack, 2012)
  • ID number: EX P1
  • Release date: September 22, 2012
  • Accessories: 3-blade and 4-blade rotors
Part of the first wave of United EX product, Choppermaster is a redeco of the Power Core Combiners Searchlight toy, transforming into a tandem rotor rescue helicopter of indeterminate model. Choppermaster can swap between his normal head and a larger head so that he can also serve as a torso (dubbed "Prime Mode") for Power Core Combiner drone-limbs. His chestplate has a flip-up Mini-Con Powerlinx peg that allows him to use any Mini-Con as chest armor.
He was only available in a set with Rollermaster, and the Mini-Cons Spanner, and Firebug.
This mold was also used to make Windburn.

He'll shoot his eye out.
  • Bumblebee & Blazemaster (Legends Class, 2013)
  • Series / Number: 02 / 002
  • Accessories: Rotors
  • Known designers: Joe Kyde (Hasbro)
Part of the third wave of 2012-2013 Generations Legends Class toys, Thrilling 30 Bumblebee comes with Blazemaster, who transforms into a helicopter, a robot with 3 mm-compatible hands, and a large cannon with a 5 mm handle. His rotor-blade assembly is detachable with a free-spinning 5mm post; typically it's mounted on Bumblebee's forearm (via the holes in his tires) when Blazemaster is in weapon mode. Considering his swapped colors and partnership with Bumblebee, Blazemaster may also be an homage to Bumblebee's Heli-pack.
There are two packaging variants of this two-pack: one version (which is also reflected by the official stock photo of the toy in packaging) features the same layout for the cardboard name insert as its wavemate Optimus Prime & Autobot Roller, while the other version has various texts and logos rearranged and relocated, and is lacking both the difficulty level and the Hasbro company logo.[2]
This mold was redecoed into Jolt, Generations Spinister, and Shūta Gō.

The TakaraTomy Generations release of Thrilling 30 Legends Class Blazemaster redecoes him in metallic blue.
He was only available in a four-pack with Bumblebee, as well as Optimus Prime and Roller.

Notes

  • Most—if not all—of the toys pictured in the 1990 Hasbro Transformers catalog are unfinished prototypes or mock-ups, and a variety of differences from the final product are apparent. In Blaze Master's case, there are some minuscule sculpting differences...and the complete lack of robot-mode paint applications.
  • Choppermaster's bio notes do not explicitly say he's Blaze Master, but... come on. Plus, the guy who wrote the bio and story and all that said he is.
  • The United EX set bucks tradition by putting the Decepticon's name first.
  • The 2013 Thrilling 30 Blazemaster toy doesn't resemble its 1990 counterpart that closely. This is because it actually recycles two unrelated unused designs: a robot-mode design created for an MMO (presumably either Transformers Online or Transformers Universe), and an unused vehicle-mode design for Springer.[3] He's probably not the first Blazemaster to reuse a Springer design!

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Breeze Master (ブリーズマスター Burīzu Masutā),[4] Blaze Master (ブレイズマスター Bureizu Masutā)
  • French: Brasero (Canada)
  • Italian: Elicos
  • Mandarin: Yānhuǒ Dàshī (Taiwan, 煙火大師, "Fireworks Master")
