Every level in the game has unique flavor text for when you start, and every single line was changed between versions. This renders the tree icon unused in the US version.
Ending
The Japanese version has an extended ending and credits after you escape the island. In the US version, you just get the image of the character with the message: "You survived your mission. The End..."
