Remarks:
The 1959 convention made two significant changes: first, instituting a separate nominating ballot and then a subsequent final ballot -- thus, this is the first year with nominations; second, that eligibility was restricted to the prior calendar year, rather than the year or so prior to the convention. (Though this rule did not seem strictly adhered to for some years.)
