Hon. Charles Barclay-Maitland of Tillicoultrie was born circa 1720. He was the son of Charles Maitland, 6th Earl of Lauderdale and Lady Elizabeth Ogilvy.2 He married, firstly, Isabel Barclay of Towie, daughter of Sir Alexander Barclay-Innes of Coxton and Towie-Barclay, 3rd Bt. and Jean Ogilvy.3 He married, secondly, Margaret Haldane, daughter of Patrick Haldane, 16th of Gleneagles and Hon. Margaret Forrester, on 14 April 1765.2 He married, thirdly, Janet Moncrieffe, daughter of Sir Thomas Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 2nd Bt. and Margaret Smythe, on 11 February 1768.2 He died on 28 November 1795.1
