John Murray was born circa 1739.¹ He was the son of Captain James Murray and Nikola Anna Johnstone.¹ He married, firstly, Mary Remnant on 5 May 1768 at St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, Kent, England.¹ He married, secondly, Maria Pascoe on 6 September 1801.¹ He died on 4 May 1824 at Paris, France.¹
     He lived at Glenalla, County Donegal, Ireland.² He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1796.¹ He held the office of Administrator of Cape Breton between 1799 and 1801.¹

     Andrew Murray was the son of Colonel John Murray and Bathia Freeman.¹ He died in February 1756.¹

     Bathia Freeman married Colonel John Murray, son of Hugh Murray and unknown daughter Kearns, before 1714.¹
