     Major William Cadogan was born circa 1796 at Burgh, Cumberland, England.1 He was the son of Richard Hodgson.1 He married Sarah Hodgson Cadogan, daughter of Ward Cadogan and Sarah Oxley McIntosh, on 26 November 1825 at Gretna, Scotland.1 He died in 1855 at Dartford, Kent, England.1
     He was given the name of William Hodgeson at birth.1 In 1833 his name was legally changed to William Cadogan.1

     From 15 October 1801, her married name became Cadogan.1
