     Arthur Gray Butler was born on 19 August 1831 at Gayton Rectory, Northamptonshire, England.1 He was the son of Very Rev. George Butler and Sarah Maria Gray.1 He married Harriet Jessie Edgeworth, daughter of Michael Pakenham Edgeworth and Christina Macpherson, on 4 April 1877.1 He died on 16 January 1909 at age 77 at Torquay, Devon, England.1
     He was educated at University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was headmaster between 1862 and 1867 at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England.1
