Captain Henry Needham Scrope Shrapnel was born on 26 July 1812.1 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Henry Shrapnel and Esther Squires.1 He married Louisa Sarah Jonsiffe on 19 August 1835 at St. Mary's Church, Dover, Kent, England.1 He died on 1 June 1896 at age 83.1
He was educated at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 3rd Dragoon Guards.1
