     James Douglas, 3rd Marquess of Queensberry also went by the nick-name of 'The Cannibalistic Idiot'.1 He was a homicidial maniac, probably congential.1 On 17 June 1706 he was bypassed in entail of the estates and the 1684 titles.1 In 1707 he slaughtered, spitted and roasted a young scullion in the Holyrood kitchens after being left unattended in his cell there by his keepers, as they had gone to enjoy the Edinburgh riots over the Acto of Union.1 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Douglas of Hawick and Tibberis [S., 1628] on 6 July 1711.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Marquess of Queensberry [S., 1681] on 6 July 1711.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount of Nith, Torthorwald and Ross [S., 1681] on 6 July 1711.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Drumlanrig and Sanchar [S., 1681] on 6 July 1711.1 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount of Drumlanrig [S., 1628] on 6 July 1711.1 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Queensberry [S., 1633] on 6 July 1711.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Douglas of Kinmouth, Midlebie, and Dornock [S., 1681] on 6 July 1711.1
