     Malcolm Stewart Riach was born on 14 May 1821 at Scotland.1 He was the son of Major William Alexander Riach and Margaret Stewart.1 He was baptised on 4 June 1821 at Perth, Perthshire, Scotland.1 He married Elizabeth Rutter, daughter of William Smalley Rutter and Elizabeth Smith, on 16 July 1850 at Manchester Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England.1 He died in 1899 at Steyning, Sussex, England.1
     He gained the rank of officer in the 2nd Battalion, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders.1
