Edward Montague Earle Welby was born on 12 November 1836.1 He was the son of Sir Glynne Earle Welby-Gregory, 3rd Bt. and Frances Cholmeley.2 He married Sarah Elizabeth Everard, daughter of Robert Everard, on 3 February 1870.1 He died on 25 January 1926 at age 89.1
He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lincolnshire.1 He was a practising barrister.2 He held the office of Stipendiary Magistrate of Sheffield between 1874 and 1915.1
