Joan Elizabeth Goodall was the daughter of Reginald Goodall.2 She married William George Michael Spens, 2nd Baron Spens, son of William Patrick Spens, 1st Baron Spens and Hilda Mary Bowyer, on 30 June 1941.1 She died on 3 December 1994.1
From 30 June 1941, her married name became Spens. After her marriage, Joan Elizabeth Goodall was styled as Baroness Spens on 15 November 1973.

Patrick Michael Rex Spens, 3rd Baron Spens was born on 22 July 1942.2 He is the son of William George Michael Spens, 2nd Baron Spens and Joan Elizabeth Goodall.2 He married Barbara Janet Lindsay Fisher, daughter of Rear-Admiral Ralph Lindsay Fisher, on 12 March 1966.2 He died on 5 January 2001 at age 58.2
He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.2 He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1964 with a Cambridge Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He was appointed Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants (F.C.A.) in 1967.2 He was director of Morgan Grenfell between 1972 and 1982.2 He was managing director of Henry Ansbacher between 1983 and 1987.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Spens, of Blairnsanquhar, co. Fife [U.K., 1959] on 19 November 1984.1 He was proprietor of Patrick Spens & Co, Chartered Accountants.2
