William George Michael Spens, 2nd Baron Spens was born on 18 September 1914.1 He was the son of William Patrick Spens, 1st Baron Spens and Hilda Mary Bowyer.2 He married Joan Elizabeth Goodall, daughter of Reginald Goodall, on 30 June 1941.1 He died on 19 November 1984 at age 70.1
He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1935 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1945 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was with the British Control Commission, Germany between 1945 and 1955.1 He retired from the military in 1948, with the rank of Major, late of the Royal Artillery.1 He was partner of Fuller, Jenks, Beecroft & Company between 1955 and 1961.1 He was registered as a Chartered Accountant (C.A.) in 1960.1 He was director of Federation of British Carpet Manufacturers.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Spens, of Blairnsanquhar, co. Fife [U.K., 1959] on 15 November 1973.1 He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.)1
