Sir John Smith, 1st Bt. was born on 10 April 1744.1 He was the son of Henry Smith and Mary Hill.2 He married, secondly, Anna Eleonora Morland, daughter of Thomas Morland.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Curtis, daughter of Robert Curtis and Elizabeth Wyldbore, on 18 February 1768.1 He died on 13 November 1807 at age 63.1
He inherited as a boy the estates of his kinsman Alderman Sir William Smith, of London and Sydling St Nicholas, Dorset.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1772.1 He succeeded as the 1st Baronet Smith, of Sydling St. Nicholas, co. Dorset [Great Britain] on 1 June 1774.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Dorset.1

Hon. Henry Brodrick was born on 11 February 1838.1 He was the son of Reverend William John Brodrick, 7th Viscount Midleton of Midleton and Hon. Harriet Brodrick.1 He married, firstly, Kathleen Henrietta Frances Brouncker, daughter of Richard Brouncker, on 10 September 1862.1 He married, secondly, Alice Chapman, daughter of Captain Alfred Chapman, on 1 June 1869.1 He died on 31 October 1877 at age 39, without issue.1
