     He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.¹ He gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.¹ He fought in the Second World War.¹ He lived in 2003 at Little Conigree, Jubilee Road, Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire, England.¹

     Elizabeth Jane Reid was the daughter of Brigadier Sir Francis Smith Reid.¹ She married Charles Francis Shelley, son of Spencer Shelley and Gladys Mulligan, on 6 January 1951.¹ She died in 1992.¹
     From 6 January 1951, her married name became Shelley.

     Sarah Jane Shelley was born on 2 February 1952.¹ She is the daughter of Charles Francis Shelley and Elizabeth Jane Reid.²

     Julia Frances Shelley was born on 7 July 1954.¹ She is the daughter of Charles Francis Shelley and Elizabeth Jane Reid.² She married Charles Brereton Frater in 1980.¹
     From 1980, her married name became Frater.
