Allan Macdonald, 6th of Belfinlay was the son of Ranald Macdonald.2 He married Jean Mackinnon, daughter of Lachlan Mackinnon of Corry, in 1761.1 He died on 10 February 1784.1

Jean Mackinnon is the daughter of Lachlan Mackinnon of Corry.2 She married Allan Macdonald, 6th of Belfinlay, son of Ranald Macdonald, in 1761.1

James Macdonald, 7th of Belfinlay was the son of Allan Macdonald, 6th of Belfinlay and Jean Mackinnon.2 He died at America, unmarried.1

Allan Macdonald, 8th of Belfinlay and 1st of Waternish was the son of Allan Macdonald, 6th of Belfinlay and Jean Mackinnon.2 He married Flora Nicolson, daughter of Patrick Nicolson of Ardmore and Catherine MacAlister, in 1819.1 He died in May 1855.1
He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Inverness-shire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Invernes-shire.1 He was commissioned in 1799, in the service of the 55th Regiment.1 He was commander of the 2nd West Indies Regiment in the West Indies.1 He was 2 i/c of the 55th Regiment between 1813 and 1814 in the Netherlands.1 He purchased Moidart in 1827.1 He purchased Waternish, Skye in 1833.1 He sold Moidart in 1834.1
