     Frances Smith was the daughter of Thomas Smith.2 She married Charles Lyell of Kinnordy, son of Charles Lyell of Kinnordy and Mary Beale, on 11 October 1796.1 She died on 4 December 1850.1
     From 11 October 1796, her married name became Lyell.

Sir Charles Lyell of Kinnordy, 1st and last Bt.1

     Sir Charles Lyell of Kinnordy, 1st and last Bt. was born on 14 November 1797.1 He was the son of Charles Lyell of Kinnordy and Frances Smith.2 He married Mary Elizabeth Horner, daughter of Leonard Horner, on 12 July 1832.1 He died on 11 February 1875 at age 77.1
     He wrote the book Principles of Geology.1 He graduated with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)1 He was a founder member of The Sunday League.1 He was appointed Knight in 1848.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was created 1st Baronet Lyell [U.K.] on 22 August 1864.1 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1

     Mary Elizabeth Horner was the daughter of Leonard Horner.2 She married Sir Charles Lyell of Kinnordy, 1st and last Bt., son of Charles Lyell of Kinnordy and Frances Smith, on 12 July 1832.1 She died on 24 April 1873.1
     From 12 July 1832, her married name became Lyell.

     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.1

     Lt.-Col. Henry Lyell was born on 1 December 1804.1 He was the son of Charles Lyell of Kinnordy and Frances Smith.2 He married Katherine Murray Horner, daughter of Leonard Horner, on 25 January 1848.1 He died in February 1875 at age 70.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 43rd Bengal Light Infantry.1
