     John Portal was born on 29 April 1764.1 He was the son of Joseph Portal and Sarah Peachey.2 He married, firstly, Mary Corrie, daughter of John Corrie, on 6 October 1794.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Drummond, daughter of Henry Drummond and Hon. Anne Dundas, on 1 August 1815.1 He died on 7 May 1848 at age 84.1
     They also had three sons and two other daughters who died young.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 They also had another son who died young.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He lived at Laverstoke, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He lived at Freefolk Priory, Freefolk, Hampshire, EnglandG.1

     Mary Corrie was the daughter of John Corrie.1 She married John Portal, son of Joseph Portal and Sarah Peachey, on 6 October 1794.2 She died in 1813.2

     Lieutenant Robert Portal was born on 7 November 1820.1 He was the son of John Portal and Elizabeth Drummond. He married Eliza Charlotte Taylor, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Unknown Taylor, in February 1856.1 He died on 24 December 1888 at age 68.1
     He fought in the Crimean War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 4th Light Dragoons.1 He fought in the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854, and was in the Charge of the Light Brigade. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 5th Lancers.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.1 He lived at Ashe Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire, EnglandG.1

     Eliza Charlotte Taylor was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Unknown Taylor.2 She married Lieutenant Robert Portal, son of John Portal and Elizabeth Drummond, in February 1856.1 She died on 19 July 1902.1
     From February 1856, her married name became Portal.1

     Sir Wyndham Spencer Portal, 1st Bt. was born on 22 July 1822.3 He was the son of John Portal and Elizabeth Drummond. He married Mary Jane Beach, daughter of William Beach and Jane Henrietta Browne, on 19 April 1849.3 He died on 14 September 1905 at age 83.3
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.3 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He gained the rank of Captain between 1842 and 1865 in the Hampshire Yeomanry.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Hampshire.3 He was vice-chairman and chairman of the London and South Western Railway between 1875 and 1900.3 He was created 1st Baronet Portal, of Malshanger, Church Oakley, co.
