Maj.-Gen. John Mansel was the son of Reverend Christopher Mansel and Sarah Hoare.2 He married Mary Biggin, daughter of John Biggin, on 9 June 1768.1 He died on 25 April 1794 at Coteau, Flanders, FranceG, killed in action.1
He gained the rank of Colonel in the 3rd Dragoon Guards.1 In 1742 he inherited Cosgrove Hall on the death of his brother.1 He lived at Cosgrove Hall, Northamptonshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Battle of Coteau on 25 April 1794.1
