Oliver St. John Gogarty was born on 17 August 1878.1 He was the son of Dr. Henry Gogarty and Margaret Oliver.2 He married Martha Mary Duane, daughter of Bernard Duane, in 1906.1 He died on 22 September 1957 at age 79 at New York, U.S.A.2
He was educated at Stonyhurst College, Blackburn, Lancashire, England.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1 He was educated at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (F.R.C.S.I.)1 He wrote the book An Offenng of Swans.1 He held the office of Member of the Irish Free State Senate between 1922 and 1936.1 He was a friend of James Joyce, who featured him as 'Buck Mulligan' in Ulysses.1 He wrote the book Mr. Petunia.1 He wrote the book It Isn't this Time of Year at All.1 He wrote the book Mad Grandeur.1 He wrote the book As I was Going Down Sackville Street.1 He wrote the book Tumbling in the Hay.1 He wrote the book Going Native.1 He was a wit and classicist and a very well-known figure in Irish and British society.1 He lived at Renvyle House, County Galway, Ireland.1
