Rhoda Johnston was the daughter of Oliver Charles Johnston.2 She married Major Frederick Rainsford Hannay of Kirkdale, son of Captain Thomas Rainsford and Jane Hannay, on 26 November 1840.1 She died on 25 December 1865.1

Colonel Ramsay William Rainsford-Hannay of Kirkdale was born on 9 September 1844.1 He was the son of Major Frederick Rainsford Hannay of Kirkdale and Rhoda Johnston.2 He married Helen Jane Brancker, daughter of John Brancker, on 30 December 1874.1 He died on 11 November 1932 at age 88.1
He was educated at Windermere College, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, EnglandG.1 In 1893 he had the centre portion of Kirkdale house rebuilt after its gutting by fire, an open Victorian hall and gallery replacing the central Adam staircase and enclosed gallery.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Artillery.1

Brig.-Gen. Frederick Rainsford Hannay was born on 7 September 1854.1 He was the son of Major Frederick Rainsford Hannay of Kirkdale and Rhoda Johnston.2 He married Emily Louisa Wilkie, daughter of David Elliot Wilkie, on 19 May 1891.1 He died on 23 December 1950 at age 96.1
He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the Royal Engineers.1 He was Commandant between 1907 and 1908 at School of Military Engineering, Roorkee, IndiaG.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1911.1 He was Commandant between 1914 and 1917 at School of Military Engineering, Roorkee, IndiaG.1 He was Director of Fortifications and Works, Army HQ.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1
