Margaret Caldwell was the daughter of John Caldwell of Caldwell.2 She married Sir John Maxwell of Auldhouse, 2nd Bt., son of Zacharias Maxwell of Blawerthill and Jean Maxwell.1 She died on 25 March 1758, without issue.1

William Maxwell of Kirkconnel and Annandale was the son of Reverend George Maxwell of Auldhouse and Jane Mure.2 A contract for the marriage of William Maxwell of Kirkconnel and Annandale and Jane Stewart was signed on 20 May 1637.1 He died circa 1695.1
In 1648 he acquired the territorial Barony of Kirkconnel and Springkell in Annandale, Dumfries-shire.1
