John William Morton Mansel was born on 2 August 1909.1 He was the son of Algernon Lascelles Mansel and Isita Rodger Wilson.2 He married Gillian Valerie Whinney, daughter of Douglas Harold Whinney, on 3 May 1952.1 He died on 29 July 1974 at age 64.1
He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and became a POW.2 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He gained the rank of Major in the 5th Battalion, The Queen's Royal Regiment (Territorial Army.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Institute of British Architects (F.R.I.B.A.)1

Gillian Valerie Whinney is the daughter of Douglas Harold Whinney.2 She married, firstly, John William Morton Mansel, son of Algernon Lascelles Mansel and Isita Rodger Wilson, on 3 May 1952.1 She married, secondly, John Marles Sedgwick Barnard on 3 December 1977.2
From 3 May 1952, her married name became Mansel. From 3 December 1977, her married name became Barnard.2 She lived in 2003 at 1 Lower Barn, Salford, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1

Isita Susan Mansel was born on 24 January 1954.1 She is the daughter of John William Morton Mansel and Gillian Valerie Whinney.2 She married, firstly, J. Peter Raffe, son of Joseph Raffe, on 16 August 1978.1 She and J. Peter Raffe were divorced in 1985.1 She married, secondly, Roy Thomas Pickering in 1988.2
