Sir Grufudd ap Rhys was the son of Sir Rhys ap Thomas and Efa ap Henry.2 He married Catherine St. John, daughter of John St. John, 2nd Baron Saint John of Bletso and Catherine Dormer, circa 1507.1 He died on 29 September 1521.1,3
He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1501.1 In 1520 he was present at the Field of the Cloth of Gold.1
