Sir William Edward Maxwell was born on 5 August 1846 at Brompton, London, England.2,3 He was the son of Sir Peter Benson Maxwell and Frances Dorothea Synge.3 He married Lilias Grant Aberigh-Mackay, daughter of Reverend James Aberigh-Mackay and Lucretia Livingston Reed, on 2 June 1870 at St. John's Church, Meerut, India.3 He died on 14 December 1897 at age 51, at sea.2
