Colonel Kendal Fergusson Franks was born on 22 September 1886.1 He was the son of Sir Kendal Matthew St. John Franks and Gertrude Jane Butt.2 He married Effie Violet Hazel Catania, daughter of George Frederick McLeod Catania and Effie Lilian Stanyon, in 1914.1 He died on 24 December 1944 at age 58.1
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded twice.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Indian Army.1 He fought in the South Persia Expedition between 1918 and 1919.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.1 He was commander of the Royal Battalion, 5th Mahratta Light Infantry between 1930 and 1934.1 He was Recruiting Officer, Poona between 1936 and 1940.1 He was Assistant Director of Recruiting between 1940 and 1944.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1943.1

Effie Violet Hazel Catania was the daughter of George Frederick McLeod Catania and Effie Lilian Stanyon.2,3 She married Colonel Kendal Fergusson Franks, son of Sir Kendal Matthew St. John Franks and Gertrude Jane Butt, in 1914.1 She died on 13 December 1954.
Effie Violet Hazel Catania also went by the nick-name of Dolly.1 From 1914, her married name became Franks.
