Mary Catherine Cox was the daughter of Henry Hill Cox.1 She married, firstly, James Gordon Hay, son of General Lord James Hay and Elizabeth Forbes, on 13 November 1878.1 She married, secondly, Edward Magee after 1883.1 She died on 11 February 1892.1

Major Malcolm Vivian Hay of Seaton was born on 21 January 1881.1 He was the son of James Gordon Hay and Mary Catherine Cox.1 He married, firstly, Florence de Thiene, daughter of Gaétan Mabille du Chêne, Comte de Thiene and Chéricle Louis Gudin, on 13 May 1902.1 He married, secondly, Alice Ivy Wigmore, daughter of Herbert John Wigmore, on 23 May 1956.1 He died on 27 December 1962 at age 81.1
He was educated at Beaumont College, Old Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Gordon Hghlanders.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by St. Andrew's University, St. Andrews, Fife, ScotlandG, in 1950.1 He lived at Seaton House, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG.1 He was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.)1
