Sir William Duff Gordon, 2nd Bt. was born on 8 April 1772.1 He was the son of Hon. Alexander Gordon, Lord Rockville and Anne Duff.1 He married Caroline Cornewall, daughter of Sir George Cornewall, 2nd Bt. and Catherine Cornewall, on 10 February 1810.2 He died on 8 March 1823 at age 50.2
He was given the name of William Gordon at birth.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Worcester in 1807.3 On 9 October 1813 his name was legally changed to William Duff Gordon by Royal Licence.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Duff, of Halkin, co. Ayr [U.K., 1813] on 20 November 1815.2
