     Arthur Hay, 9th Marquess of Tweeddale was born on 9 November 1824.¹ He was the son of Field Marshal George Hay, 8th Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Susan Montagu.¹ He married, firstly, Helena Eleanora Augusta de Kielmansegge, daughter of Adolphus Augutus Frederic Graf de Kielmansegge, on 18 February 1857.¹ He married, secondly, Julia Charlotte Sophia Stewart-Mackenzie, daughter of Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie and Hannah Charlotte Hope-Vere, on 8 October 1873.² He died on 29 December 1878 at age 54, without issue.¹
     He gained the rank of Ensign and Lieutenant in 1841 in the Grenadier Guards.¹ He was Aide-de-Camp to the Viceroy of India between 1845 and 1846.¹ He fought in the Sutlej Campaign between 1845 and 1846.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant and Captain in 1846.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1854.¹ He fought in the Crimean War.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1860.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Linnean Society (F.L.S.) in 1865.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Haddington.¹ He was president of the Royal Zoological Society between 1868 and 1878.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1871.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Gifford [S., 1694] on 10 October 1876.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Marquess of Tweeddale [S., 1694] on 10 October 1876.¹ He succeeded as the 17th Lord Hay of Yester [S., 1488] on 10 October 1876.¹ He succeeded as the 10th Earl of Tweeddale [S., 1646] on 10 October 1876.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Viscount of Walden [S., 1694] on 10 October 1876.¹ He wrote the book Ornithological Works, published 1881 (ASIN: B00467J306.)¹

     Helena Eleanora Augusta de Kielmansegge was the daughter of Adolphus Augutus Frederic Graf de Kielmansegge.¹ She married Arthur Hay, 9th Marquess of Tweeddale, son of Field Marshal George Hay, 8th Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Susan Montagu, on 18 February 1857.¹ She died on 30 September 1871.¹
     She held the office of Lady of the Bedchamber to HRH The Princess of Wales.¹ Her married name became Hay.

     Adolphus Augutus Frederic Graf de Kielmansegge held the office of Hanoverian Minister to the U.K.¹

     Julia Charlotte Sophia Stewart-Mackenzie was born on 21 June 1846.¹ She was the daughter of Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie and Hannah Charlotte Hope-Vere.¹ She married, firstly, Arthur Hay, 9th Marquess of Tweeddale, son of Field Marshal George Hay, 8th Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Susan Montagu, on 8 October 1873.¹ She married, secondly, Rt. Hon. Sir John Rose, 1st Bt., son of William Rose and Elizabeth Fyfe, on 24 January 1887.¹ She married, thirdly, Major Sir William Eden Evans Gordon on 2 February 1892.¹ She died on 17 May 1937 at age 90.¹
     From 8 October 1873, her married name became Hay. After her marriage, Julia Charlotte Sophia Stewart-Mackenzie was styled as Marchioness of Tweeddale on 10 October 1876. From 24 January 1887, her married name became Rose. From 2 February 1892, her married name became Gordon.

     Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie was born on 6 May 1818.² He was the son of Rt. Hon. James Alexander Stewart-Mackenzie and Hon. Mary Frederica Elizabeth Mackenzie.¹ He married, firstly, Hannah Charlotte Hope-Vere, daughter of James Joseph Hope-Vere and Lady Elizabeth Hay, on 17 May 1844.¹ He married, secondly, Alicia Almira Seymour Bell, daughter of R. H. Bell, on 2 June 1871.² He died on 18 June 1881 at age 63.¹
     He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)² He lived at Seaforth, Lancashire, England^G.²

     Rt. Hon. Sir John Rose, 1st Bt. was born on 2 August 1820.² He was the son of William Rose and Elizabeth Fyfe.² He married, firstly, Charlotte Temple, daughter of Robert Emmett Temple, on 3 July 1843.² He married, secondly, Julia Charlotte Sophia Stewart-Mackenzie, daughter of Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie and Hannah Charlotte Hope-Vere, on 24 January 1887.² He died on 24 August 1888 at age 68.²
     He was a practising barrister in 1842 at Canada^G.² He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1851.² He held the office of Solicitor-General in 1859.² He held the office of Minister of Public Works in 1860.² He held the office of Minister of Finance in 1867.² He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1870.² He was created 1st Baronet Rose, of Montreal [U.K.] on 9 September 1872.² He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1878.² He held the office of Receiver-General of the Duchy of Cornwall in 1883.² He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1886.²

     Major Sir William Eden Evans Gordon married Julia Charlotte Sophia Stewart-Mackenzie, daughter of Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie and Hannah Charlotte Hope-Vere, on 2 February 1892.¹ He died on 31 October 1913.²
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Stepney.¹

     Hannah Charlotte Hope-Vere was born circa 1816. She was the daughter of James Joseph Hope-Vere and Lady Elizabeth Hay.^1,2 She married Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie, son of Rt. Hon. James Alexander Stewart-Mackenzie and Hon. Mary Frederica Elizabeth Mackenzie, on 17 May 1844.¹ She died on 5 June 1868.³
     Her married name became Stewart-Mackenzie.

     Eliab Breton was born circa 1714 at Oldbury Hall, Warwickshire, England^G.¹ He married Elizabeth Wolstenholme, daughter of Sir William Wolstenholme and Elizabeth Wheeler, in 1739.¹ He died in 1785 at Forty Hall, Enfield, London, England^G.¹
     He lived at Enfield, London, England^G.²

     Alicia Almira Seymour Bell was the daughter of R. H. Bell.¹ She married, firstly, Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie, son of Rt. Hon. James Alexander Stewart-Mackenzie and Hon. Mary Frederica Elizabeth Mackenzie, on 2 June 1871.¹ She married, secondly, Walter Chidiock Nangle on 28 August 1883.¹ She died on 21 September 1903.¹
     From 2 June 1871, her married name became Stewart-Mackenzie. From 28 August 1883, her married name became Nangle.
