George Hay, Earl of Gifford was born on 22 April 1822.1 He was the son of Field Marshal George Hay, 8th Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Susan Montagu.1 He married Helen Selina Sheridan, daughter of Thomas Sheridan and Caroline Henrietta Callander, on 13 October 1862.2 He died on 22 December 1862 at age 40, without issue.1

Helen Selina Sheridan was the daughter of Thomas Sheridan and Caroline Henrietta Callander.1 She married, firstly, Price Blackwood, 4th Baron Dufferin and Claneboye, son of Hans Blackwood, 3rd Baron Dufferin and Claneboye and Mehetabel Hester Temple, on 4 July 1825.1 She married, secondly, George Hay, Earl of Gifford, son of Field Marshal George Hay, 8th Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Susan Montagu, on 13 October 1862.1 She died on 13 June 1867.1
From 4 July 1825, her married name became Blackwood. She wrote the book The Charming Woman, published 1835.2 She wrote the book The Fine Young English Gentleman.2 After her marriage, Helen Selina Sheridan was styled as Baroness Dufferin and Clandeboye on 18 November 1839. She wrote the book The Irish Emigrant, published 1845.2 Her married name became Hay. Price Blackwood, 4th Baron Dufferin and Claneboye was born on 6 May 1794.1 He was the son of Hans Blackwood, 3rd Baron Dufferin and Claneboye and Mehetabel Hester Temple.1 He married Helen Selina Sheridan, daughter of Thomas Sheridan and Caroline Henrietta Callander, on 4 July 1825.2 He died on 21 July 1841 at age 47, on board a steamer off Belfast from an overdose of morphine after a local pharmacist, acting in haste because of the ship's imminent sailing, made up an overstrong prescription.1
He was commissioned in 1803, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1823.1 He gained the rank of Commodore in 1824.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Blackwood, of Ballyleidy, co.
