John Browne, 1st Earl of Altamont1

     John Browne, 1st Earl of Altamont was born circa 1709.1 He was the son of Peter Browne and Mary Daly.1 He married Anne Gore, daughter of Sir Arthur Gore, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Annesley, in December 1729.1 He died on 4 July 1776.1 He was buried on 7 July 1776 at Westport, County Mayo, IrelandG.1 His will was proven (by probate) in 1776, in Prerogative Court, Dublin.1
     He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 17 July 1725.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Mayo in 1731.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Castlebar between 1744 and 1760.1 He held the office of Governor of County Mayo.1 He was created 1st Baron Mount Eagle, of Westport, co. Mayo [Ireland] on 10 September 1760.1 He was created 1st Viscount Westport, of Westport, co. Mayo [Ireland] on 24 August 1768.1 He was created 1st Earl of Altamont, co. Mayo [Ireland] on 4 December 1771.1 He lived at Westport, County Mayo, IrelandG.1

     Anne Gore was the daughter of Sir Arthur Gore, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Annesley.1 She married John Browne, 1st Earl of Altamont, son of Peter Browne and Mary Daly, in December 1729.1 She died on 7 March 1771.1
     From December 1729, her married name became Browne. After her marriage, Anne Gore was styled as Baroness Monteagle on 10 September 1760. After her marriage, Anne Gore was styled as Viscountess Westport on 24 August 1768.

     Peter Browne, 2nd Earl of Altamont was born circa 1731.1 He was the son of John Browne, 1st Earl of Altamont and Anne Gore.2 He married Elizabeth Kelly, daughter of Denis Kelly, on 16 April 1752.1 He died on 28 December 1780 at Westport, County Mayo, IrelandG.1 His will was proven (by probate) in 1781.1
     He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 26 October 1748.1 On 16 April 1752 his name was legally changed to Peter Browne-Kelly.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Mayo [Ireland] between 1761 and 1768.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Altamont, co. Mayo [I., 1771] on 4 July 1776.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Westport, of Westport, co. Mayo [I., 1768] on 4 July 1776.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Mount Eagle, of Westport, co. Mayo [I., 1760] on 4 July 1776.1 His last will was dated 19 August 1780.
