     James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey was the son of Lt.-Col. James Haldane and Margaret Pye.2 He married Katherine Duncan, daughter of Alexander Duncan, 3rd of Lundie and Helen Haldane, on 15 December 1762.1 He died on 30 June 1768.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Honourable East India Company Service.1

     Katherine Duncan was the daughter of Alexander Duncan, 3rd of Lundie and Helen Haldane.2 She married James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey, son of Lt.-Col. James Haldane and Margaret Pye, on 15 December 1762.1 She died in September 1774.1
     From 15 December 1762, her married name became Haldane.1

Robert Haldane, 3rd of Airthrey1

     Robert Haldane, 3rd of Airthrey was the son of James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey and Katherine Duncan.2 He married Catherine Cochrane Oswald, daughter of George Oswald of Scotstown, on 24 April 1785.1 He died on 12 December 1842.1
     He gained the rank of officer between 1780 and 1783 in the Royal Navy, and served under Sir John Jervis, afterwards Lord St Vincent, at the relief of Gibraltar.1 In 1798 he sold Airthrey to General Sir Robert Abercromby.1 He conducted a preaching tour of Scotland in company with his brother.2 In 1809 he bought Auchengray, Lanarkshire.1

     Catherine Cochrane Oswald was the daughter of George Oswald of Scotstown.2 She married Robert Haldane, 3rd of Airthrey, son of James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey and Katherine Duncan, on 24 April 1785.1 She died on 14 June 1843.1
     From 24 April 1785, her married name became Haldane.1

     Margaret Haldane was the daughter of Robert Haldane, 3rd of Airthrey and Catherine Cochrane Oswald.2 She married James Farquhar Gordon on 22 December 1804 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1,3 She died on 29 September 1849.1
     From 22 December 1804, her married name became Gordon.

     James Alexander Haldane was born on 14 July 1768.1 He was the son of James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey and Katherine Duncan.2 He married, firstly, Mary Joass, daughter of Major Alexander Joass of Colleonard, on 18 September 1793.1 He married Margaret Rutherford, daughter of Professor Daniel Rutherford, on 23 April 1822.2 He died on 8 February 1851 at age 82.2
     He was educated at University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Honourable East India Company Service.1 He conducted a preaching tour of Scotland in company with his brother.1 He had two other daughters (both died unmarried) by his first wife.1
