Sir Thomas Clarges was born on 4 January 1619.2 He was the son of John Clarges and Anne Leaver.1 He married Mary Procter, daughter of George Procter, on 29 September 1646 at St. Bartholomew by the Exchange, London, EnglandG.3,2 He died on 4 October 1695 at age 76 at Piccadilly, London, England.3,2 He was buried on 8 October 1695 at Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, England.2
He was appointed Knight on 8 May 1660 at Breda, The NetherlandsG, by King Charles II.2

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon between 1667 and 1670.1 He held the office of Gentleman of the Bedchamber in 1670.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Monck of Potheridge, Beauchamp and Teyes [E., 1660] on 3 January 1669/70. He succeeded as the 2nd Duke of Albemarle [E., 1660] on 3 January 1669/70.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Torrington, Devon [E., 1660] on 3 January 1669/70. He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) on 28 May 1671.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1675.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Devon between 1675 and 1685.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1679 in the 1st Horse Guards.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1679 in the a Regiment of Horse.1 He held the office of Chancellor of Cambridge University in 1682.1 He held the office of Recorder of Sandwich in 1684.1 He held the office of Recorder of Harwich in 1685.1 In June 1685 he was employed against Monmouth, when he is said to have shown neither capacity nor courage.1 He held the office of Governor of Jamaica on 25 November 1686.1 He held the office of Recorder of Saffron-Walden in 1688.1 He held the office of High Steward of Totness, Colchester and Barnstaple in 1688.1

Charlotte de Laval was born in 1530.1 She was the daughter of Guy XVI de Laval, Comte de Laval et de Montfort and Antoinette de Daillon.1 She married Gaspard II, comte de Coligny seigneur de Châtillon-sur-Loing, son of Gaspard I, comte de Coligny seigneur de Châtillon-sur-Loing and Louise de Montmorency, on 15 October 1547. She died on 3 March 1568.

Guy XVI de Laval, Comte de Laval et de Montfort was the son of Jean de Laval, seigneur de La Roche-Barnard et de Belisse and Jeanne de Perrier, baronne de Quintin.1 He married, firstly, Carlotta d'Aragona, daughter of Federico d'Aragona, re di Napoli and Anna di Savoia, in 1500.1 He married, secondly, Anne de Montmorency, daughter of Guillaume I, seigneur de Montmorency seigneur d'Ecouen, de Chantilly, de Damville et de Thoré and Anne Pot, dame de La Rochepot, in 1517.1 He married, thirdly, Antoinette de Daillon in 1525.1 He died in 1531.1
