John Graham, Lord Graham of Kinpont was born circa 1613.1 He was the son of William Graham, 7th Earl of Menteith and Agnes Gray.1 He married Lady Mary Keith, daughter of William Keith, 5th Earl Marischal and Lady Mary Erskine, circa 11 April 1632.1 He died on 6 September 1644, murdered by James Stewart of Ardvoirlich while in the Royalist camp.1

He was commissioned in 1761, in the service of the Royal Navy.4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Dunbartonshire between 1781 and 1790.1 He fought in the Battle off Toulon in 1793.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1794 in the Royal Navy.1 He was Commander of the Sheerness at the time of the Mutiny at The Nore, which he helped put down.4 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1794.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1795.1 He fought in the Capture of Cape Town in 1795, which he commanded.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Stirlingshire between 1796 and 1801.1 He was created 1st Baron Keith, of Stonehaven Marischal [Ireland] on 16 March 1797, with a special remainder to his daughter, Margaret.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the the Mediterranean Fleet between 1799 and 1802 participating in military operations at Aboukir Bay and taking of Alexandria.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was awarded the Kinght, Ordert of the Crescent of the Ottoman Empire.4 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Blue in 1801.1 He was created 1st Baron Keith, of Stonehaven Marischal, co. Augustus John Child-Villiers, son of George Child-Villiers, 5th Earl of the Island of Jersey and Lady Sarah Sophia Fane, on 20 September 1831.1 She married, secondly, Hon. William Godolphin Osborne, son of Francis Godolphin Osborne, 1st Baron Godolphin and Hon. Elizabeth Charlotte Eden, on 10 May 1870.1 She died on 21 September 1892, without issue.1
